I still haven't got time to introduce us properly, so here's another photo instead.

Woodworm

by Messyplay @ 2006-05-31 - 08:27:53

I kept noticing all these little bugs in the spare room. They've been appearing for months but I just assumed they were coming through the window or something. Yesterday I noticed that there were considerably more of the little blighters so I thought I'd invistigate further: Blooming woodworm! They've been gaily munching throught the wardrobe for months (maybe even years). So I cleared everything out and hoovered them all up. These things burrow into the wood and lay their eggs thus producing hundreds more. When Adrian got home he chopped the wardrobe up and threw it out TO BE BURNED.
There's a moral to this story: If you notice a problem, don't just brush it under the carpet (or hoover it under the wardrobe) deal with it STRAIGHT AWAY. And don't just tidy it up - get rid of it completely, burn it up if neccessary. If you don't, you'll soon discover that it has already spread into other parts and will be much more difficult to get rid of.
So there's your pearl of wisdom for today!

music too!!

Introducing Adrian

by Messyplay @ 2006-05-26 - 15:34:32

Well, he's my Hubby, also known (by me) as Big H.
He's a 35 year old Christian, husband, father, quantity surveyor (in that order of priority).
I should really get him to write this, but he's at work right now and I guess if some of it is innacurate, he can comment on it later!
His main interest is Jesus - the Living Word! Strangely enough, that's the main interest of all the Hollands. Well, not just the main interest, but the MAIN POINT TO LIFE. Come to think of it, it's not even the main point to life, it's the ONLY TRUE POINT TO LIFE. If you don't believe us, go to www.pontychurch.com (I don't know how to put links on here, so you'll have to copy and paste it into your browser).
All the Hollands - Adrian, Sharon, Annie and Joseph - we all love the Lord Jesus and have given our lives to Him and have all been baptised in water (there's nothing quite like baptising your own children and seeing them growing in their own relationship with Jesus).
Oh, hang on, I was supposed to be introducing Adrian.
Sorry love, but I'm goiong to have to finish it later on because it's time to feed the kids and get Joseph off to his guitar lesson.
It's still raining.
Bye for now. Comments please.

Cosmetic Surgery

by Messyplay @ 2006-05-26 - 15:19:15

I think I'm getting this now.
This week I had cosmetic surgery for the second time in my life.
The next time you see me, don't expect to see a certain part of my anatomy a great deal bigger than before - because they are still the same!
I have had a lump removed off the end of my nose (well, the side to be accurate). The kids at the school where I work assumed that I'm a witch because of it. I wonder if I'll still have my magical powers now it's been removed.
As a general rule I am actually oposed to cosmetic surgery, in the sence that we think of it today.
Many people greedily, selfishly spend rediculous amounts of money on changing there body shape, facial appearance, size and so on. This is totally against what God has planned for us because He made us the way we are and he knew what he was doing....
...spend your money on something else - a family holiday, a new car, a garden shed (!) anything, but NOT on changing what God has made.
Now here's my point - I believe that God has made us the way we are and that we should leave ourselves that way, except for the following circumstances:
I had cosmetic surgery the first time when I was a kid. I suppose I was about 10 years old. It was to correct my flapping-out ears. I looked like a toby jug with two big handles sticking out the sides and boy, did the other kids love to tease me!
If a particular feature is a disfigurement or something that causes suffering (such as teasing, bullying, or causes ther individual to feel unreasonably self-conscious etc) for the individual, then I think that in these instances, cosmetic surgery is appropriate and definately acceptable.
The other instance, as in the case of my witch's bump on my nose, is when the 'thing' was not what God made. I have a mole on my face, but I won't have that removed because God put it there and I'm not self-concious of it. However, the nose-lump appeared about 10 years ago (it started out as a mega-spot, but never went away). Besides, it was free to remove on the NHS and only took 10 minutes in my local doctors' surgery.
Comments welcome.

Garden shed

by Messyplay @ 2006-05-24 - 18:48:28

Adrian has just built a garden shed, mostly out of bits of wood that we salvaged when we dismantled the betting shop and some that was given to us from a friend. Hope I manage to upload the photo onto here - it's quite funny.be careful now!
